For Sale: 1998 Land Rover Defender 110
Meet Julien, a seasoned adventurer who’s spent a well-traveled life exploring Germany and beyond. First registered in 1998 and most recently based in Cologne, this Defender 110 has been a reliable companion to just a few careful owners, each of whom kept the truck in solid working order.
With just over 200,000 kilometers on the clock, Julien still starts with ease, shifts smoothly through the 5-speed LT77 manual gearbox, and engages the 2-speed transfer case without hesitation. Powered by the legendary 300Tdi 2.5L four-cylinder turbo diesel, this Defender offers the right blend of simplicity, durability, and drivability. Recent maintenance includes a new timing belt and water pump at around 200,000 km, and service records confirm consistent upkeep over the years.
Originally delivered in Germany, Julien passed through several DEKRA roadworthiness inspections, and later found his way to Gibraltar, where he continued to be meticulously inspected and maintained. The documents trace a clear line of ownership, mechanical history, and care — a rare find among imported Defenders.
Finished in classic Coniston green with an offset white roof and Rostyle steel wheels, Julien proudly wears his original paint and decals. There are scuffs and scratches from life on the road, but they tell a story rather than distract. The bulkhead, floors, and chassis are solid and rust-free, showing only minor surface oxidation and some cosmetic wear. The rear door could use a bit of love, but overall, Julien remains highly presentable and structurally sound.
Inside, you’ll find a mostly original and unmodified cabin — original headliner, functional seatbelts, and a no-nonsense layout. Some interior trim pieces (like door cards and dash moldings) would benefit from TLC, but the bones are solid and refreshingly unmolested. Julien also comes equipped with a roof rack, winch, and auxiliary wiring for solar or accessories — ideal for overland conversion or utility use.
Finally, Julien arrives at the Port of Baltimore this week — and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s rare to find a Defender with this kind of honest history, mechanical confidence, and ready-to-roll personality. Offered at a bargain price due to minor panel damage, Julien is perfect for anyone who values character, dependability, and a little patina earned the proper way — on the road.
Clean Virginia title will be issued upon arrival. Available for viewing and delivery soon.
